Hillside Veterinary Clinic is a full-service animal clinic whose mission it is to provide the highest standard of compassionate veterinary care for your pets.  We are passionate about what we do, and it shows in the care we take in treating every pet.  Our mission is to provide high quality, compassionate veterinary care for our patients and a supportive and informative environment for clients.  This belief of ours is what has guided us since we opened our business over 10 years ago. We’re proud of the quality of our care and service, and we strive to keep the highest standards at all times. Our pride in our service makes us a favored vet clinic and many customers from all over Cape Town.  Whether your pet needs a checkup, dental care or a vaccination, we’re here to help and offer compassionate care in the most sensitive of times.

Dr Duncan Siegfried

After qualifying from Onderstepoort in 1989, Duncan spent a number of years working in London. He is particularly interested in internal medicine, as well as spoiling his patients with plenty of biltong! Duncan established the practice in 2001.

Dr Gemma Schreiner

Gemma was born and bred in the UK, graduating from Cambridge University with both her veterinary degree and a Masters in genetics, before moving out to South Africa in 2011. Subsequently she has spent time working in welfare, private practice and doing emergency work, joining the Hillside team in 2020.

From a veterinary perspective Gemma’s passion lies in small animal internal medicine and veterinary hospice and palliative care, the latter of which she holds a certification in. Outside of work she enjoys riding her horse, spending time with her husband and daughter as well as her own fur-kids and baking – if she gets a chance!

Dr Danny Fernandes

After obtaining his BSc in Ecology from the University of Stellenbosch in 2011, and spending a year and half traveling and working in New Zealand and Southern Africa, a desire to combine a love for animals and the environment with the hands-on approach of veterinary medicine meant a return to University, graduating with a BVSc from the University of Pretoria in 2018.

Danny joined Hillside at the end of 2020, having previously worked in the Northern Drakensberg area and the Eastern Cape. From Ants to Elephants, his love for animals is a big part of his life, however when offered any free time, you’re likely to find him running a trail, swimming a lake, surfinng a wave, playing guitair or generally just enjoying the big outdoors!

RIP – Mr White Cat

Mr White Cat was something of a celebrity at Hillside Veterinary Clinic!  He claimed Hillside Veterinary Clinic as his new home, after being found in a drain.  He basically ran the practice and could usually be found lounging on the reception counter ignoring all us simple humans. Mr White Cat was totally deaf but that did not stop him from living life to the fullest!  We will never forget this handsome chap!
